Cairns Beaches

Cairns in the tropical north of Australia is well known for its proximity to Queensland's Great Barrier Reef and an outer Barrier Reef trip is a must-do activity while you're in the region. What a lot of people don't know about, however, are its gorgeous beaches.

Cairns' climate is typical of tropical north Queensland; warm sunny winters and hot sultry summers, making it perfect for a beach holiday. Be warned however, that the weather in Cairns from January to March during the wet season can be rainy at times, but don't let that stop you! Cairns and its beaches are beautiful no matter the weather.

You'll love Palm Cove, the northernmost beach in Cairns, with its beautiful palm fringed beach, fronting a village nestled amongst towering melaleucas. It is fast becoming Cairns' and Queensland's newest glamour holiday destination, having been visited by the likes of Bill Clinton and Keanu Reeves.

Another magnificent example of Cairns tropical northern lifestyle is the stunning, yet laid-back suburb of Trinity Beach. This is a great spot if you're thinking of a family holiday, as it is quiet, but has everything you could want, including a pub overlooking the Coral Sea.

Great for a visit, but with little tourist infrastructure are the suburbs of Clifton Beach and Kewarra Beach. Cairns' closest beach, Machans is a cute little village, full of old fibro beach cottages and is one of the best spots for crabbing and fishing in Cairns. Fishing off the rock wall and beach fishing are also popular here.
